Synopsis of an international standard on hermal comfort based on thermal sensation criteria

he standard ISO 7730—2005:Ergonomics of the thermal environment-analytical determination and interpretation of thermal comfort using calculation of the PMV and PPD indices and local thermal comfort criteria is the latest revised edition of ISO 7730—1994. Presents the added contents, including categories of thermal environment, the method for long-term evaluation of the general thermal comfort conditions, local thermal discomfort, non-steady-state conditions and adaptation. Compared with the American standard ANSI/ASHRAE 55—2004, ISO 7730—2005 presents categories of thermal environment and the method for long-term evaluation of the general thermal comfort conditions, making it more operable. The international standard would be of value for thermal comfort study and indoor thermal environment standard preparation in China.
